PRESERVATION IS MORE THAN A NEW SPINE!

TIPS TO KEEP YOUR BOOKS IN SHAPE

New binding is the best way to make sure your great-great-grandchildren can enjoy your valued books long enough to pass on to their kids. However, there is a lot more to preserving a book than just keeping it together.

BOOKS LIKE COMFY TEMPERATURES

A really hot or really cold book will become brittle and more prone to deteriorating. Keep your precious pages stored in a climate-controlled area year-round instead of in a box in the garage where they’re exposed to unhealthy temperatures and humidity (or lack thereof).

PASS ON THE PLASTIC

Don’t ever wrap an old, precious or valuable book in plastic. Contrary to popular belief, that can actually intensify the wear-down of your book.

BUY IT A BLANKET

You do want to try to cover your book in another, more breathable material, like a wooden box. We build Bible boxes and snug book containers to help your book cuddle up cozily, away from anything that could stress it.

WATCH YOUR FINGERS

The oil in your hands contributes to the wear and tear of the book, so try not to handle it more than you need to.  For important literature, especially if it suffers from advanced age, try slipping on a pair of gloves before you pick it up.

And of course, always handle with care.  A book is something to be treasured, so treat it with the tenderness it deserves.
